Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat Jan 13, 2007 6:32 pm   Thanks redearslider.com !!1

Just waned to thank the creator and host for a great website.
Seems to be growing exponentially and is a great resource.

I went to a local Pet Smart Friday evening and bought my old bud
a new floaty basking area, threee new charcoal things for the AquaClears,
some food for him that I've never tried before (HBH - Turtle Bites).
.. and he got 11 lil feeder fish, 3 of which are left.

I seem to have been inspired by all of you people.
Don't get me wrong, I've always loved my turtle, but the
honest caring ownership I see, I almost feel a renewed interest
in the old thing.

/cheers

What a nice thing to say! I too feel inspired by the level of care manifested on here. Knowing what to do, also, is very comforting.

By the way, I too just went out and spent a BUNCH of money on Spot - new MVB, digital thermometer, living plants.

same here. i just got back from petco myself. since i upgraded Normans tank from a 10 gallon to his new 30 gallon rubbermaid i needed some new things to kinda fill up the empty space. also needed a new heater to keep that extra 20 gallons of water warm. I got him a Hanging Garden that suction cups to the side of the tank and within minutes of me putting it in he was allready hiding in it. And i also picked up an aquatic gardens 200 watt heater, fully submersible wit a safety shutoff for only 20 bucks. Now all i need is a new filter for him within the next couple of weeks so for now partial and full water changes will have 2 do. But just from that hanging garden i can tell norman is a whole lot happier. Pretty awesome what 5 dollars can do for your turtle.
=)

And i agree 110%. This community we have here is an AWESOME thing.
BIG Thanks to everyone for everything.

THANK YOU RED EAR SLIDER.COM!!!

If it wasn't for this forum I would have given up on turtles. I followed the pet store's instructions to a tee, I even got two cause the guy said the one would get lonely!!! I lost 2 res, and went back to ask what had happened? They came up with some long story, and I went home with a new light and two turtle's. Same thing happened, but this time I went online, and found this site.

It turns out that all I had over the basking area was a UVA heat bulb, the pet store told me to set the UVB tube light on a screen lid over the water!! So, I feel responsible for four poor little baby res, who where starved to death because they didn't have proper lighting, so they couldn't digest the pellets. I will never listened to some bum who just wants to make a sale again.

So once again,

Thanks to all who helped save the lives of my two res, tank and diesel. :D

P.S. Oh how I wish I had only gotten one little "lonely" RES!!! It would have been so much easier, but that goofy pet store clerk talked me into two.

Here, here!!! Hats off to this website who has given this long-time turtle owner lots of new ideas on how to make my adult RES Sheba WAY more comfortable. She is happier than I have seen her in years. :)
