Okay, my brothers friend gave me his turtle because he doesnt want it anymore, and i felt bad. They currently sleep huddled together, but since his is bigger (like half an inch bigger) im scared that he squishes the other because hes normally sleeping ontop of the others, Is this safe for the smaller turtles ( they are about an inch big and the big one is half an inch bigger)

It is normaly, and it is safe, especially when they are sleeping in the water, since less force is applied downwards when they are in the water. Even when basking, since the size difference is so small, it wouldn't hurt.

The only exception would be if you stacked a 9 inch turtle to a 1 inch turtle (which shouldn't happen anyways, since the larger one can eat the smaller one if it desired to do so) or so, the weight would kill the smaller one.

Well 95% of the time my turtles sleep underwater at the bottom of the tank, but they do occasionally sleep with their heads above the water level. It's also fine if your turtles sleep completely dry, though you may want to look out for illness if they do it out of nowhere.

Where they sleep is a personal choice, everyone of mine has their favorite spot to sleep, on the rocks, in plants, shoved in a corner on the bottom...all normal.

They dont do it out of nowhere, they sleep when i turn off their lights but im scared that their cold, altho the tank remains rather humid and warm after the lights go out, i was wondering if it was okay for them to sleep on land

Do you have a heater running in the water?

Put the thermometer on the basking platform and get up at 2 A.M. for a second, check the temperature and write it down. I think temperatures from 72 and above should be fine. If it's lower, then there may be a concern since illnesses are caused by cold temperatures.

Do you have a cover for your tank? If you have a screen, place a towel over most of the tank. This will keep the temp up. We keep our house pretty cool in the winter (66 degrees!). The tank's air temp stays above 70 degrees when I cover it.
