General Care Discussion :: The Invetiable Has Happened

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Well, so much for my big mouth! My turts have discovered the fish. Fine with me! But I worry abotu the digestive issues...

I cleaned out the tank today. Put them back in, and whammo! Feeding frenzy, like they just noticeed the fish. So far, in about half an hour, they've gone through 3 or 4 rosie minnows.

Can turtles "overdo" it? I just took my DOG to the vet friday, after he ate something in the dunes at the beach (I don't know what!). $400.... the xrays showed he had GAS. and lots of it. I could have told them that ;)

Anyhoo, so... dogs tend to overdo it. Do turtles? Can I just let them have it for a while or what?

Your turtles can over do it with the fish, mostly because it is a protein overload. Eating 3 or 4 here and there isn't going to hurt, just make sure your turts are still getting and eating their veggies.

When I first added feeder fish to my tank, I bought a dozen fish. My two turts had eaten most of them by the end of the week. They just didn't get any new ones for awhile, lol.

Well, there were four big minnows living in Spot's tank since last summer. Tonight, for the first time in a long time, I saw him seriously chasing one. I looked away. It's horrible to see him catch one. I went back about an hour later - and now the minnows are three.

Man, I wish Siobhan would get with the program and start eating the baby guppies in my tank. The baby fish are taking over the tank!!! Eeek!

Industrial girl that's kinda how I felt abotu the fish. Crap everywhere, nasty little things. In fact, after I cleaned the tank, I said to my fiance (in the next room), "I confess I kinda hate those rosie reds. they were supposed to be food MONTHS ago. Now they're huge and they crap up the tank constantly!" because honestly, they make more of a mess than my turts!!

Well, it was like Lily heard me!!! I came in, and the frenzy had begun. ANd ONLY the rosie reds! Perhaps you need to tell Siobhan to eat them :) Hee hee!

I consider myself an animal lover but um... terrible as this is, my fiance and I just popped-a-squat on the floor in front of the tank and watched joyfully while they hunted and caught. Is that terribly wrong? I hope god isn't a rosie red....

LOL, Kiki!!! I have been taking a fish once every coupla days & putting it in Prog's tank. This frog is a trip. He definitely goes into hunting mode when a fish is there, and despite them being fast, he is always faster & the fish will disappear in a day. So for now, Prog is helping out.

I also put one of the bigger guppies in Sheba's tank but so far she has ignored it. I guess it is too small for her to bother with it. Prolly because she knows she doesn't have to work for the food I give her. LOL
