So go get one. What are you waiting for? Go to the store. Ask the fish guy to see the water heaters. Tell him how many gallons it is and they'll help you choose one. Just go already.

Bri I just found a thread where you already asked for a picture of a water heater--in November. You haven't gotten one yet? Here is the thread. Click on the link. Read the thread until you get to the part where there is a link to a picture that you really liked. Get the picture. Print it out. Bring it to a pet store. Ask them for a water heater like the one in the picture for your aquatic turtle. They will help you.

You know, this post was originally back in November. I don't think Brie has posted on here for awhile.

I was going on another post, that linked to this one. I never gave advice and only posted that I hoped this person didn't HAVE 23 turtles like their sig said AFTER I checked and saw they had not been on here for a few months. ever asked anything.

Who are you to tell ask me not to reply to a post? A mod? What question did I ask? Nothing.

Before we start flaming each other, Lets help her answer or get whatever she needed before its too late. Anyways Bri, water heaters don't turn on during the night only, its a 24 hr thing to keep the turtles warm all day long. Im sure that if you go to a pet store, your mom can ask a sales person to help you find one by asking for a water heater. I hope this helps you on your quest to find a water heater for your two turtles (I hope its not really 23, i think its just a typo when she hit 2 or something)

An aquarium heater will be on as long as it needs to be to set the water at the desired temperature on the dial (most of them).

The really small cheap heaters don't count, some don't even have a temperature setting, just an on/off or warmer/cooler setting and will be on 24/7.

But for the average/good heaters (that you should be using for your turtles), they have a sensor/thermometer inside the heater itself that records the temperature of the surroundings/water, and in relation to the temperature setting you set the heater at, it will stay on and heat the water until that temperature setting is reached, then it will turn off until the water cools enough for the thermometer to detect it, and the heater will switch on again automatically.

The temeprature you set your heater at though will stray off slightly from what you exactly want it at, either due to a slight defect, or because the glass/plastic casing over the heating unit of the heater itself is shielding the thermometer inside from an accurate reading. For this reason, unless your room temperature is really warm and stuffy, most aquarium enthusiasts carefully monitor their water temperature settings, and oftentimes, turn up the temperature slightly beyond the recommended temperature to compensate for the inaccuracy, and measure the water with their own external thermometers.
Hey hey hey.

This thread is really too old to be replied to, but I think that allowing only a week before considering a thread/last post to be too old to be replied to is too soon...

Sorry never should have said anything. I never thought things would be taken the wrong way by others. Personally I do not reply to posts that are this old, and when the person has not been on in a long time...waste of my time. This post was linked through another one and I came here reading it following the other post, just was astounded by the fact that this person needs that much help with a heater and claims to have 23 turtles.
