General Care Discussion :: Weird thing has been happening

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Jan 23, 2007 5:41 pm   Weird thing has been happening

2 days ago one of my turtles started shooting out water through his nose,he only does it when he is eating. He would go crazy and chow down his food realy fast then come up for air and water would litterally shoot out of his nose realy realy fast! At one time the water from his nose actually shot at me,it wasnt slimey or anything so i dont think its mucus, ive seen my turtles sneeze before and they usually make a little squeek sound but this time no,my turtle just stood they're like nothing happened. My turtle is acting normal and eating like a pig,i havent noticed any change in him except the shooting water out of his nose.

His water temp is 79 degrees, and the basking temp is 95 degrees,i do have the A/C on in my room but my turtles setup is nowhere near it,at night i cover the rubbermaid with a plastic top to keep the air inside of it warm.

Anyways, any idea what this can be ?

I don't know if it's normal for your turtles, but whenever my turtles dive underwater for extended periods of time (ie. waking up from sleep), or just like to work out and swim really fast, then surfacing, they often shoot water out of their noses.
Hey hey hey.

When my turtles "aggressively" eat, they do that too. I remember a topic about way back... they were referred to as little firemen or something :)

I don't think it's something to be worried about...it's due to the way they're constructed. :)

Nothing to worry about, it's normal when they are eating like pigs to shoot water out of their nose! I admit it is funny looking though!
