General Care Discussion :: My turtle has been basking all day

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Sam has been basking all day. Normally he jumps right off when I come in but I have walked right up to him and he still stays on the dock! He even tucked his feet and head in and slept. Is this a problem?
It's been hours.

A basking turtle is a happy turtle! As long as his eyes look ok (not cloudy or puffy) and seems alert and able to breathe without any problems, I wouldn't worry about it.

Some days my turtles seem to bask almost all day and other times they hardly do at all.

Take advantage and get out the camera! :P

I wish I could see my turtles bask. Maybe later when they get used to me.

Keep your eyes peeled for other symptoms - loss of appetite, irritated eyes, etc. One of the symptoms of illness is lethargy - where the turtle looses energy and doesn't seem to be interested in things like he used to be. Probably little Sam is just enjoying his basking - but if he's really behaving differently and starts showing other symptoms, then you might need to be concerned.
