Today I am beginning and hopefully completing my above tank basking area. I am so excited! If it goes well, I am going to do it again on the 60 gallon I am picking up for my rescued turtles!
I am using some of your ideas as my base line, and have some other ideas in my head...now how to draw them out so that my hubby can build it.
Update on the rescued turtles, one has already gone to her new home. The smallest, Stubby, is getting along well in her own 55 gallon tank. She had some issues trying to swim in the deep water, so we lowered the water level and gradually brought it up. She is eating very well, and gets really excited about fruits and veggies. Her new name is Gertie.
The other 2 are enjoying proper care and are still waiting for their forever home. (hmmm, Im buying a 60 gallon tank for them, wonder if they already found it? shhh! dont tell my hubby) I still have not named them in the hopes that I can actually place them with someone else. But I just have fallen heads over heels with their lovely little faces! The one that I think has shell rot has one heck of a good eater, the other...not so much. Im thinking she will come around though.
Meanwhile my other 3 shelled kids are sssssassssyyy! Last night when I got home from work, Tootsie was doing her best to get through the side of the tank, playing hold me! hold me! hold me! LOL, she is such a clown, then she did something she has never done before, she took food out of my fingers. I was so excited! My hubby just sat there laughing, he doesnt get it! Hubba swam right below Tootsie and was being unusually social. Frankin...well Franklin is Franklin, he did his normal bouncing off the walls for a minute and then settled in to watch from the other side of the tank...I hope someday he will trust me like the other 2 do.
I will post pictures of the new basking area once its complete!
Meanwhile...Stay groovy!
Debi
