General Care Discussion :: Worms?!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

A couple days ago, i looked into the tank and saw tiny little squigglies. I just introduced a few feeder fishes in the tank so I thought it was just their poop floating around swaying with the water from the filter.

Today, I stirred up the tank to see if there were things settled on the bottom. Then I saw what look like little worms on the side of the tank! They are really thin, about a strand of hair and the longest is about an inch long, and pink in color.

What the heck is that? What should I do?

Ughh... You have worms... Do you have snails in your tank? Your tank will need to be cleaned.

Welcome. Are they moving on their own or just from the water current? I'd take out the fish, clean everything well, and see if they come back. If they do, have your turtles tested for parasites.

They seemed to be moving on their own. But they look like they're almost all gone...just a couple here and there.

I'll try cleaning and see what happens...

are you feeding Reptomin? i fed my turtle Nutrafin and when started feeding her Reptomin, i got wormies just like that. it's very disgusting and they never go away. they get all caught up in the filter too so you'll have to replace filters. you should also feed your turtle outside the tank AND wait for her to poop in the feeding tank; i thought if i didn't have any leftovers of Reptomin the worms wouldn't appear, but DUH they poop what they eat so i'd still get worms. even if there are only a few, they multiply quickly and the worms will climb together and make little balls of themselves alongside the corners and sides of the tank. GOOD LUCK. i ended up throwing out the tank after multiple washings 2 or 3 times a week and got a new one. I threw out the Reptomin and went back to Nutrafin (and of course leafy greens) and have never encountered any more worms.
