General Care Discussion :: Oh Boy...Ive Done It Again...

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi Marisa,

I have already begun the Hibiclens treatment on all 3 of them, do you think I need to continue with Stubby and the middle size one? (I want to name them, but am afraid if I do I will become too attached and end up with 6 turtles!) I think the middle one's picture is just my bad photo, her shell doesnt look like that...sorry.

My prospective parents have already been guests on this site and will be well versed in RES care and are sure they want to take on the responsibility before they get to take them home. They have agreed that should once they receive the the turtle and they decide it isnt for them they are to return the turtle to me. They are not going to strangers either, they are going to be placed with friends and coworkers of mine (so I can check up on them :o) ).

Thanks for your response!

If the shells of the first two look OK, you just might to use the Hibiclens for a few days as a precaution.

Sounds like you've found some good homes for them. :)

I have one more question...

How long should I keep the little beauties separated from other turtles? My friend who has a mississippi map (spike) is taking Stubby?

Oh, and another question...

How long do I treat turtle 3 with the Hibiclens?

Thanks!!!

I'm not sure on your treatment, but quarantine length is usually 90 days or 3 months minimum. It can take that long for some illnesses to surface.

For the one that has the apparent shell problem, I'd do it for a few weeks (this is a once-a-day cleaning) and see if there's any improvement in those areas. If there's no improvement or if the area appears worse, I'd take the turtle to be seen.

A 90-day quarantine period is actually one of the less conservative time frames for quarantining a new turtle, Some keepers recommend longer.

Hi All,

Well the last 2 rescued turtles went to their forever home last night. One of my co-workers took them. I am so happy for them. :D I informed them in on what is involve and told them about this site so they could read up. The family seemed more than ready to take on the care of these little sweeties!

Woo Hoo :::happy dance:::
Stay groovy,
