General Care Discussion :: Need help.....

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat Mar 03, 2007 10:59 am   Need help.....

Hello everyone... My situation is....I have grown my RES in the normal room temperature water. When I brought my turtle as a hatchling, I didnt knew that he requires a warm water (till I came to know about this site). Now my problem is my turtle is 1 year old. Has he adapted to the normal tap water? And will he be affected if I now start to keep him in warm water? I am also going to bring two more hatchlings. So what I shall do with them? And also I want to keep these three of them together (after the new ones grow up well to live up with the older one Heidi).

Please help..what should I do?

Start warming the water gradually and then maintain the temp you need. If you get a decent heater you should be able to adjust the temp. Cheaper models have a preset temp that you can't adjust.

What is normal room temperature? It's never too late to provide the appropriate living conditions.

Is your turtle healthy? Has your turtle grown in the year you've had him? How big is he (shell length without the curve)? What temp has s/he been living in for the past year?

You live in India, right? If it's warm where you are (don't know what the temperature would be like there now), if your turtle is healthy, and if the room temp around 75F, perhaps you don't need to change anything. What exactly is the temp he's living in now?

What's "warm" for a turtle will usually feel cool to us. Around 75 degrees fahrenheit (or 24 centigrade or celcius) feels quite cool to me...unless I've been outside in freezing weather.

Here in India now the winter days are going on. Therefore the normal room temperature is 22-27 degree celcius. My turtle is in very good condition and healthy. Also he has grown since I have had him. Her length is 4 inchs. Shes been living in 25-32 degrees.

Well your turtle has certainly not been too cold! 25 is fine, but 32 is actually too warm. I think 24 -25 is probably very comfortable for your turtle. I am not at all sure you need a heater if the tank never gets below 25.

From the pic you posted, I wouldn't worry about the temp your turtle has been living in. :)
