General Care Discussion :: Help: 5 year old RES

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Mar 11, 2007 10:15 pm   Help: 5 year old RES

My friend gave me his 5 year old RES yesterday. He told me to buy and feed him with turtle pellets. As I scan and read all the information here on this website, I am hesitant if I should abide with turtle pellets as my friend told me to do so. Can anyone help me with this problem please? I need to know all the necessary information as much as possible in taking good care of a 5 year old RES turtle. I am so afraid that I cannot take good care of this poor RES turtle that would lead to his death because of poor diet. Thank you very much for reading.

Check out the main page of redearslider.com and just read through all the topics, pretty much everything you need to know is clearly laid out, then if anything's still confusing, you can come back and ask more specific questions.

For a quick overview of what to feed, there's a sticky at the top of the Feeding and Nutrition forum with a list of appropriate veggies. The general rule is to feed your turtle the amount of pellets that would fit in their head if hollow, every other day, then supplement that with a variety of veggies daily, and on occasion treats such as feeder fish.

I agree with Starchick. The information links on the main http://www.redearslider.com is really well written and tells you everything you need to know to take good care of your turtles. I'm glad I found this site. This forum is fun for sharing information too. Read up, relax, and enjoy your new friend. :D
