Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I have figured out the best way for me to give the girls access to a nesting site was to use an old 20 gallon tank with the light hood. I put 1 bag of sand and 1 bag of bark(like all shredded up) into it and mixed them. So far when I see them acting like they want out or are kicking their legs I put them in it. Know one has dug or laid any eggs. Does this setup sound like a good option? Any other suggestions? I need to have access to it pretty much everyday and this tank I could slide beside the tv stand so they could have privacy but when I don't want to see it it is out of sight.

hi hershey,

do you have a heat lamp for the "nesting tank"? i think they like to nest in certain temps.

right now I have the tube light that was on it as a fish tank, I can take the basking light off their tank and use it but I am only wanting to put one in at a time due to size issues. They are both good size 8 inches and 9inches. Maybe I will go ahead and get a new heat lamp for them and can move that one.

before you spend any money i'd wait to see what everyone else thinks. i'm still new to the RES world and both mine are males (i think, lol). my box turtle is a female and i noticed she laid her eggs during the day when her heat lamp was on.
