General Care Discussion :: Dark bumps on the middle of her shell...

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

After the first week I got Serra, I noticed these small brown bumps in the direct middle of her middle scutes...They seem to be slightly rasied.

Is this some sort of pyramiding? Or is it just her genetic heritage?

I looked at the old pics I took of her and the bumps were there, except they were very small and not raised.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

I was looking closer at her shell, and the bumps look a bit transparent... Are her scutes just shedding?

I see brownish areas down the spine (first and second pics). Are these what you're talking about? Do they look transparent when the shell is dry (the pics look like your turtle is in the water)? The line of the spine can be a little raised, especially when they're small. I can't really tell from your pictures---it doesn't look like pyramiding, though. The seam/lines in between the scutes are really noticeable, which indicates your turtle is growing. Turtles shed as they grow, so I suppose that's a possibility. A pic of the shell dry would be nice. Your turtle has such as sad face! :)

Yeah, I think she's shedding. She's been shedding her skind recently and all of her shell colour has been duller and looks like bits of her shell are flaking off (Some scutes have a transparent film on them.)

Here's a pic of her dry shell
