General Care Discussion :: turtle dreams

my turtles are really hard sleepers. like in the morning when i turn on the light (bedroom light) they dont wake up. sometimes even in the middle of the day when i walk into my room i will go up to the tank and they dont even seem to notice/care that i am there. alot of people constantly go in and out of my room (that is not supposed to sound dirty) they seem to have gotten used to all of the action and dont respond or open their eyes, and then go back to sleep.

also, while they are sleeping, they move their heads around alot with their eyes closed every once in a while. its really cute. does this mean they are dreaming?

it is possible, psych 101 taught me that every sentient being dreams. it's part of the brain's activity. the same as humans experience parasomnia (performing waking actions while dreaming, though this is typically recognised as a disruptive disorder), other animals can experience it as well. i've seen cats nursing in their sleep, complete with suckling and kneading, so i don't see why a turtle couldn't do it either. well, not nurse, but do normal waking activities.
