General Care Discussion :: Map biting RES

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi, I own a MAP turtle (male) and a RES turtle (female) and they get along really well. But I started to notice that the MAP has been gently biting the neck area the RES.

The RES is about 4 times the size of the MAP.

Is this a sign of something?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like they are having territorial disputes or the male is going thru puberty & wants to mate with the female. Even though the female isn't fighting back yet, she will eventually lash out if the male bugs her enough.

This will eventually escalate to the point where someone will get hurt, and you will be forced to separate them into their own tanks.
