General Care Discussion :: I need some help with a basking spot.

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

:? I would like to either make or create an above tank basking spot for my older turtle. I just don't know what to do. I need ideas or heck "plans" for a basking spot. I could really use any and all ideas. And pictures would be great. The one major issue with this is I need the tank and spot to be covered. I have two cats that I don't trust to stay out when they are running and chasing each other through the house. So anything would be greatly appreciated! :)

Here's a link on the subject and from it you can link to pages with descriptions of various types of platforms:

Here's some examples of very nice setups:

Hmmm I think that when I was reading the info in this site I must have some how skipped that. Thanks.

Ok so I may have narrowed down my questions with that last bit of help :)
I think that I would like to make a wood one that sits on top of my tank. Any ideas on how to do it...materials that work well, including wire mesh or cloth to cover the rest of the tank. And how tall should it be so that it is escape proof?
