In my spanish class, we are atalking about favorite things since we were young. On the vocab that we got was tortuga - turtle. i piped up that i had turtles (I live in NC where it is illegal to sell turtles. now they are trying to say its illegal to have them :() anywho, he said that we would have to bring our favorites things and talk about them. He has requested me to bring in my turtles and everyone got so excited. the only thing that i could of even do was say maybe. If i was to do this, i would have to use the little crate that i put them in when i clean there cage. first off, i am only bringing one of the fellas so worry not about that (if i do bring them) if i do do this, speedy will be in there for about 3 hours. If my teacher keeps him the windowsill and leaves him alone, will things be OK? i have a big rock for him to bask on and the window always has sun shining in it. will this give him enough for 3 hours? Geez, such peer pressure. He used to have one so he wanted to see mine.

I wouldnt do it. Too much stress on the turtle. And kids in highschool can be pretty mean. In 9th grade way before I even knew what a redearslider was. My science teacher had a small turtle (looking back at it, it looked like some type of painted turtle). The teacher clearly said (DONT TOUCH IT) but the kids ignoring what the teacher said took the turtle and put it on its back and spun it around, took it everywhere with them (to the bathroom, lunch) I didnt think much of it back then, i wasnt interested in it so I never even touched it. Point is, i wouldnt trust anyone with my turtles. Especially in school)

I wouldn't bring him either. Explain the risk of salmonella and that your parents won't allow you to bring the turtle due to that reason. There's no good reason to put such stress on your pet, your teacher will understand. And if not, he's an idiot and can't force you to bring the turtle anyways.

I definitely wouldn't do it either. Take pictures instead.

Why not take pictures of them to show the class? You could show your set-up and explain why it's necessary for turtles to have such equipment (and emphasize how much care a turtle requires to keep it healthy).

i wouldnt do it, there is just going to be too much pressure.
its a good idea bringing the pics in.
its better thyan hearing " can i hold him.........oh can stroke his shell" over and over again.

I think there was someone on here who used their turtle to show a class, but as its been stated, it can be pretty stressful for the turtle. One giant head is usually enough.

I agree with everyone here....just bring pics.

My parents live in NC too (Fayetteville) and my dad always tells me stories about the turtles in his pond (he's got a TON). There is only 1 log in the pond, and one day he walked by to find 3 turtles stacked on each other due to lack of space to bask ("triple stacked"). He was trying to figure out how the 3rd one got up there, but I guess it shows you that these little buggers are very determined!!!
