Is it normal for a turtle to sit/stay at the bottom of the tank alot?
RES - Maddie - 2 inches - 1 oz
RES - Nemo - 1 and a half inches - 1/2 oz

mine does, it's his favorite place to be. Just make sure he can get his nose out of the water so he doesn't drownd. If he can breathe and have room to move around, he should be fine.

the water is 12 inches deep. they can swim to the top but he sits at the bottom alot...

That's fine, my turtle likes to do that as well. And don't worry about your water being too deep, RES are aquatic and the deeper you can make the water the happier they are.

I can understand! When they're so tiny at first it's just downright frightening. I was so worried that I would kill my turtle the first few months I had it I literally went online everyday to look things up. I couldn't believe how attached I was to this little green quarter living in my room :-)
