my bigger turtle Bitey did that when I put him in the newest tank. He stopped though after a little while and when we put a cuttlebone in. It was something new to attack.

At least you see why he got his name... He would pull on it until it popped back. I thoroughly checked it and the tank is fine, but he's one crazy turtle.

Thanks for letting me know that swimlib. It gives me hope. Spot was biting the silicone again for awhile this evening but I think he's losing interest. There are nibble marks all over the place. He's always got cuttlebone in his tank but he needs something new. Pretty soon I'm going to move him outside for the summer into a nice big pond. That should occupy his mind for awhile!

Maybe you could try one of those flavored cuttlebones? I know that they recommend the plain, but I don't think one flavored cuttlebone will hurt anything,

I'll try anything to keep him from tearing his tank apart!

I'm making progress on his outside pond. The pool is mostly drained (except for a few inches in the bottom for the minnows) and I have the epoxy that I'll use to seal the ring of concrete around the sides. I'm just waiting now for the concrete to dry thoroughly. Wouldn't you know it, after years of drought we're suddenly having rain every day! I can't complain about the rain, though, it's a beautiful thing.

When you put Spot in his summer pond, do you miss having him in the house? I would feel so lonely if i kept my turtle outside!

I am going to miss him. He's in the den right now where my husband and I (and all our fur pets) spend all our time. I watch him constantly and go over to talk to him frequently. When he's outside I'm sure we'll start spending all our time out there by the pond! but it won't be the same.
