Yeah I know. They are advertising on their home page a Baby and Cobra video, I didn't have the sound on but it scared the heck out of me.

Ugh, I saw that too. I think they sewed the cobra's mouth shut cause it was striking at the baby but it obviously wasn't hurting the kid at all (thank goodness for that!). But that poor snake! I'm getting pretty sick of myspace.

i read an article some time ago on how the guys behind myspace work so hard to keep myspace safe. ummhmm, yeah, i can see that </sarcasm>. but then again, we all know that protecting animals isn't anywhere near as important entrapping potential predators *rolls eyes*

youtube tends to be more adamant about ensuring proper content, sometimes annoyingly so. good for them for taking that off.

yeah the idea was really just to show that turtles are great escape artists. octopusgirl, i have a weak spot on my tank too, so i stuck a piece of plexiglass to cover it up. the plexiglass is about 4x the size of the turtles, so they'll have to do some very hard work to get above that lol. they've not made any attempts to fly the coop (so to speak) since i got them the bigger tank, but i'm not taking any chances.

and david - i like to fish, too. really i prefer crabbing, but i've enjoyed fishing since i was about 4 yrs old. and hunting as well. i used to hunt rabbit and quail with my bow and arrow. parents owned a hunting ranch when i was young, learned a lot going out there biannually. i honestly don't know many people, boy or girl, that like either hunting or fishing. a lot of survival skills have gotten lost, i don't know too many people that even know how to do it.

Wow, that's pretty cool, pumpkinsherbert! :D There must be something about us turtle owners that makes us so cool!  I've just met more girls who like to fish (and hunt!!) than I have in my entire life. I know there are a lot who do, I've just never met any. :? What part of the country did you grow up in?

I grew up in a suburb in Massachusetts on a dead end road. My parents had 3 acres with a brook in the back yard that the state used to stock with yellow perch, sunfish and catfish. There were also snakes, frogs, migrating turtles, crayfish, eels and sucker fish. I used to fish and explore and catch animals (and then release them cause my Mom wouldn't let me keep them :( ) all the time as a kid. There was also 80 acres of town forest and trails at the end of the street and a big pond a short hike in. That pond had even more wildlife plus largemouth bass! :D That was paradise for me!

Today I own 20 acres that butts up against several hundred acres of forest and logging roads. I cut my own trails for my 4x4 truck and my atv's. I also cleared out a campsite/bonfire pit/target shooting range. There's no water unfortunately but there's deer, lot's of wild turkey, coyotes, and other wildlife, but they're a lot harder to catch than fish and reptiles!

I know what you mean about most people not knowing their way around the outdoors anymore. I started teaching my boys outdoor skills from the time they could walk steady enough on the trails. They know their way around those woods pretty well now. It's funny cause their friends are totally helpless when they go hiking and camping.

Personally, i feel much more comfortable in the woods than I do around town or in the city. I can find my way through miles of trails and off-trail bushwacking but I have a terrible time trying to find my way through town roads.

That sounds so nice, all I had is 3 1/3 acres of desert :( at my parents house and right down the street on either side was cotton fields. A short drive or longer walk was the desert mountains. And some canals for the fields. Now I have a townhouse in the city. I need to move.

Did you have any cool snakes or lizards around where you lived? We went to Nevada and Arizona a couple of years ago for vacation but it was in October and I think most of the reptiles were bedding down for the winter. I also had my family with me so I didn't really get a chance to go exploring too much. I really really wanted to find a rattler or two! :? That would have been a dream come true! :D

I have rattlers, king snakes, and bull snakes mainly and tons of different lizards. I have never seen a wild gila monster and it took several years before I finally saw a horny toad. I just don't like the heat and all the brown we have here.

Whoa! Nice! Bull snakes must be as fun to play with as a rattler without the fangs. :D Ya I wouldn't be able to take the heat either. And I'd miss the mountains and forests too much.
