I just got a new filter and I don't know how to put it together... I feel dumb. But I just wanna make sure I do it right. It has this one tube and some other stuff... EH

What's the brand of the filter? Did it come with instructions?

no instructions.. came with a kit.
also the thermometer... where do i put it? its like a sticker.. on the outside?

the tank i bought came with one of those thermometers. i dont really have much faith in them. i'd say get a digital one if you can afford it. if not, one of those glass suction cup ones will work.

i also have a filter related question. on the fluval 4 (not the +) that i got with my tank, it had a foam pad in the middle shaped like a cylinder. can i buy that? or is it like a permanent kinda fixture? im gonna need the extra filter power but idk if i should use the media that came with it from the last owner

Tatiana, can you give us some more description of your filter? It's hard to help without knowing the details. There are about a jillion different kinds of filter, so it really depends on what kind it is how to put it together.

Also, look carefully again at all the packaging. If there's some assembly required, there ought to be instructions somewhere, maybe on the box.

Those stick-on thermometers shouldn't be under water. You can stick them on the outside of the tank just below the water line to measure water temperature or inside the tank above the water line to measure air temperature inside the tank. Like ice said, they're not the best for accuracy but they will let you know if there's a big problem. For better accuracy a digital is recommended. I'm leary of the glass ones because an aggressive turtle can break them. Someone on the forum just had one to break a few days ago.

sounds like the same one i got from a kit, is the brand All Living Things? That filter was not very good quality, but it was confusing since they didn't provide instructions, i didn't use the long clear tube w/ the holes in it, just the gray L shaped tube...the entire filter must be submerged....hope this helps if it is the same kit
