General Care Discussion :: New Home

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Came home found my 7" RES sitting on top of her filter, I think the tank is too small!!! Anyway, being in the process of building a pond for her and Moose I don't want to go out and buy a bigger tank. Gamera was just given to me to replace my lost Myrtle (could they have given me something a little smaller!). Here's the thing, Gamera's new home is the bath tub in the spare bedroom. Maybe I'm crazy but I filled the tub, tied the light to the top of the faucet, stuck the dock to the side further from the outside. I placed a few rocks next to the dock to make it larger (she is to big for the biggest dock). She has a tub full of water and then I close the glass doors! The large heater is in with her. Guess what I'm going to do when I need to clean the tub, and away goes poopies down the drain, yahoo. I do have to say, she is the friendliest turtle I ever had. She loves to be held and her feet massaged, neck rubbed.

I just checked on her and she had layed 3 eggs, in the water gotta go.

Was this posted elsewhere? She needs a nesting area.

That sounds like a really neat temp home!

And yes, she does need a nesting area. In your other post, though, you said she'd laid 14 eggs, so I guess this was an earlier one. She could still have more in there so go ahead and provide a place for her in case she does. Do you know how to prepare a nesting area?

ps. My Spot likes to have his feet messaged too. So do I!

Yeah, I wrote in the urgent Care area at the time of laying the eggs. We are all set I kept her in a nesting box for the rest of the night and most of today guess she was done, 16 (we thought there were 14) eggs were alot. I have now moved both Moose and Gamera to my Masterbed room Jacuzzi. Now you may agree with my husband and think I am crazy but Gamera is much to big for anything I have, the pond is still being build so I decided to them both in my jacuzzi. gamera was in the guest bathroom tub but then I felt bad for Moose. I have pictures but have not idea how to post them.

Gamera is amazing! Who would think a 7" turtle could hold that many eggs! Does she look thin now?

I've got to see your setup. Are your pictures digital? Here's instructions on posting. If you have trouble let us know:

LOL, i love it! I put Crush and Squirt in the bath tub for 20 minutes one day while I was cleaning tanks and my wife had a cow.

Gamera sounds like such a neat turtle! I hope mine become that friendly over time.
