i was wondering if someone could explain to me what "pyramiding" is. i think i understand. is it when the individual scutes begin to make "pyramid" shape? or is it talking about the overall shape of the shell? and what is so bad about that? is it just a symptom of something else that is more harmful to the turtle? i read the information but i still don't fully understand.

Yup, it's when the scutes have that layered pyramid shape to them. It's caused by too much protein in their diet.

When there's pyramiding the shell is lumpy whereas it should be a smooth dome. Pyramding is typically accompanied by other deformaties and health problems like metabolic bone disease and weak bones. The internal organs can get squeezed and damaged.
