An average of 12 on and 12 off, on a bit more in the summer when days are longer and less in the winter when days are shorter.

hey phobull,

direct sunlight can actually be pretty bad. it will cause drastic temperature spikes in the water. also, if the sunlight is going through a window, then the turts still aren't getting any UVB either. they'll need a uvb light.

do you have a heat light and uvb light for them?

Also having the tank right next to the window is a good way to give your turtle RI (pneumonia) when the winter comes. Cold drafts are deadly for most reptiles.

Welcome! One of the most important thing for these turtles is to keep their water temperature right and consistent. Should be in the mid 70F's. For babies, more up around 80F. Use a water heater to keep it right instead of the sun, as a water heater will be more consistent.
