...since yesterday i noticed a film of some sort on top of the water. the water is clear and clean, but you can notice this looking from the top down. it's like "oil and water" i tried to stir it but it doesn't do anything, just sits on top of the water. anyone know what this could be? i would post pictures, but i'm at work and i really don't know if you could notice it in the pictures. any suggestions on what it is and what can i do?

You could do a search on here for similar topics. There's been a few of them in the past months. :)

It's not uncommon to see that. It can be a sign of too much feeding, feeding oily foods, not enough filtration, dusty room environment, etc. You could try using a cup and just scoop the film off the surface of the water until it's all gone. If it keeps coming back then you will need to make adjustments in feeding and/or filtration. You can also aim the filter output so it creates more turbulence at the waters surface to try to break the film up. Then your filter will be able to clean it out easier.

i searched the forums, but couldn't find anything this similar. i have the out put of the filter pointed straight up. i guess i can clean out my filter and take a cup to the top of the water.

just point your filter outtake towards the top of the water to create turbulance like David said. it works like a charm!

Try doing a search on "film water surface oily" and select the "Search for all terms" option. :)

Some foods will contribute more to that film than others. If you just angle the filter output so that the surface of the water is agitated slightly, it should help.
