General Care Discussion :: Lights on overnight

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Question, If there is no way I can get home tonight to turn off the lights on my turtle tank, will anything horrible happen? I plan to try to get home tomorrow as early as possible.

I don't think one night is going to hurt anything.

For the 1st 3 1/2 years of my baby's life I kept lights on 24/7. (I didnt know better and thought she would be "afraid" of the dark:0) She was totally ok. Slept on and off through out the days...

Now her schedule is 12 on and 12 off and she actually is HAPPY to go off to the side and realizes it is bedtime when lights go off! :)

She is still as healthy as ever. So I really dont believe lights on will be a problem. It will mess with "sleeping" schedule if done for a long period. But a few occassional times shouldnt hurt a thing :)

That's the exact reason I bought a light timer and use it all the time. Haha, my friend's all used to think I was nuts when it would be 11pm and I'd say I'd have to get home to turn Leo's lights off... needless to say, it was easier on both me and Leo to have a timer :-)

But, no, one night is fine with the lights on.

k thanks, I think I will invest in a light timer pretty soon though, I have interrupted many nights out to go home and turn off the lights and left everyone waiting and annoyed
wow camee i bet she was really relieved when those lights finally turned off after 3 years, i hate falling asleep with the lights on!

One night won't hurt, but why don't you get a timer?

One day won't hurt. If you are really worried about it, put the light on a timer 12 hours on, 12 hours off. You would need a timer when you are on vacation anyway.
