General Care Discussion :: too stressed out? how?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat Jun 30, 2007 8:13 pm   too stressed out? how?

My female who is usually very aggresive and fearless is acting strange, very strange..she doesnt want to eat in her seperate container anymore, stopped eating vegetables, she wants to eat ONLY in her tank and she is terrified at the slightest movement, she also is not biting me, she always does...this isnt her..

No mucus, lopsided swimming, etc etc. The water temperature is around 75 degrees, basking temps 92 degrees (how she likes it), ambient air temp 73 degrees. She's being fed a variety of vegetables as well as water plants occasionally, pellets are her staple, for animal protein she gets crickets, mealworms, fish, once every two weeks. I dont take her out of her tank, only when it is realy needed (water changes, etc) she is not bullied around by my male because my male is housed in a 20 gallon rubbermaid temporarly. What could it be?

Huh that's really odd. Maybe it's the change from not having the other turtle in there with her? Is she eating at all? How long has she been acting like this?

Yeah shes eating, just not in her feeding container, and she is realy terrified of me, she used to try to attack me even though i'm like godzilla compared to her. She doesnt want to eat vegetables anymore though, I'm kinda worried about her, maybe its normal? She's eating alot slower too..

She's been acting like this since this morning.

Just wait and see how it goes. Maybe she's just in a weird mood right now. Sometimes they get like that i think. Just keep a close eye on her in case any other symptoms come up i guess. At least she's not attacking you!

I dont think it's because of my male leaving. They have been seperated for like a week now and they are happier than ever without having one sniffing the other ones butt all day long, must get annoying huh? :?

I was thinking it was something I did, like a big water change, maybe it freaked her out..but last time I did that was over 2 days ago. Nothing has realy changed, but it has been realy rainy this week over here in miami..I know it sounds crazy, but I heard of some turtles slowing down and acting different when it gets colder, during the winter, could all the thunder and rain trigger something in her? Man, I feel like that was a stupid question..

You know, the weather could totally be it. I notice when it's been really rainy and nasty out, Turtley has less of an appetite and basks less, and when it's really nice out e's much more hungry and active. Good thinking! And i know you'll definitely notice if she starts acting different in any other way, you're a very attentive turtle parent!

hm, odd. Crush has some random spurts of terror sometimes. i've been feeding her by hand for 6 months but every once in awhile she's scared to death of me and won't even let me feed her. wierd mood swings. then the next day she's fine.

maybe there's a major environmental change about to happen. all of my pets can tell when huge storms are coming or when there's a tornado watch and stuff.

Storms are always associated with a low pressure system which would cause a drop in barometric pressure. Usually people with old wounds can feel a storm coming... they can "feel it in their bones."
