General Care Discussion :: Is this normal?

Since I got the new bigger tank, my turtles have been sleeping on the bottom. Or at least what looks like sleeping. They will sit in their log, in the bottom of the tank, eyes closed and not moving.

Just curious. I always saw them sleep near the top, so this is kinda of peculiar.

One thing I was thinking, was I used rocks from my old tank, and I cleaned them with bleach. BUT they were well rinsed out, and set outside for 3 days in direct sunlight. Just curious as this is new behaviour. They are still eating and moving about though.

How long have they been in the new tank? It is very possible if it s recent move that the turtles are just getting used to the new surroundings. Also.. what is the water temp?

Water temp is between 76 and 80 degrees according to my thermo. It's one of those black stick on ones. The 80 degree is lighter than the 76 so it's closer to 80 than 76.

They just got put in there a day ago. It just scared me because the time they had the bleach scare they sat on the bottom eyes closed and motionless as well, although they swim around with eyes open now so I don't think thats the problem. It was just a possibility in my mind, so I thought I would ask anyways. I felt so bad after the incident because they just sat in the pot not really moving after I took em out, I could tell they weren't happy

Well if you cleaned the rocks well after the bleaching and let them dry for 3 days out side I would say you did a good job. Since it is only their 2nd day in the new tank I bet they are just trying to figure out what the heck happened. Koroko is doing the same thing now since I went to an above tank basking area and filled up her tank. She hangs out on the bottom for a while.... stares at me.... comes to the glass... stares at me... gets some air.. repeat. Give them a few days and just keep an eye on them. If they are still basking and active with a healthy appetite it sounds like moving in jitters.

A thermometer, digital or one that you can immerse in the water, would be more accurate than the stick-on type. It's possible they're on the bottom to be in cooler water if it's really warm where you are.
