I bought it a while ago, and assumed it provided UVB, but im not sure now because it doesn't say anything about UVB on the packaging!

It cost a lot of money though, I think $18

No, it doesn't. I saw an ad for that a while ago in Reptiles magazine and checked it out. It's a nice idea, but it'd be better in a combo bulb.

yeah those kind of lights tend to confuse/trick newbies :?

get a bulb that says UVB. They run all the way from 10$ to 40$, depending on which brand you get. Stay away from the reptisun 10.0's though..as they have been known to cause eye problems. That bulb (the one you have now) will come in handy for heat/UVA though, but your turtle will need a UVB bulb.

You can use it as the UVA light, which it SHOULD provide. That way you only need a UVB now!

Return it would be fine. You can get heat from a regular garden variety household incandescent bulb.

Kind of an interesting aside - on the light spectrum, UVA lies in between UVB and visible light, so any bulb that emits visible light and UVB is also emitting UVA. Therefore, any good UVB bulb is also emitting UVA so you don't have to worry about getting a heat bulb that will emit UVA - your UVB bulb is already doing it.

Are you saying we don't need the UVA lamp?

My apartment is pretty hot so could I just turn on her UVB lamp without her heat lamp? You say it will also provide her with UVB. It's so hot up here she's been basking with no lights on!

If you get enough heat without a separate heat bulb, and your turtle will bask without one, then you'll be fine with just the UVB bulb as, yes, it will also provide the UVA!

In about 99% of the cases, though, the turtle won't bask without a heat bulb because there's not enough difference between the temp of the water and the temp of the basking platform to motivate him/her to bask.

Was it a mercury vapour bulb? Those are very powerful and provide heat, UVA, and UVB
