Is it safe to use normal aquarium conditioners and waste reducers in the environment? Or, do I stick to Reptisafe, and Biotize?

If so, which brands do you recommend?

I avoid putting chemicals in my tank at all cost. I just make sure my filter is in good working order. The filter and bio media is in top notch shape and have a water changing schedule.

I also don't like to use chemicals in the tank, especially those that eliminate waste. I think they can give keepers a false sense of security about how clean the water is and when it needs to be changed. A good filter (more than) adequate for the size of the tank, and regular cleanings and water changes will do more for your turtle than using a bunch of products.

The smaller the tank and the less water there is make cleaning and water changes more necessary, even with a filter.
