I recently ordered a Repti Glo 5.0 Desert from Reptile Supply but i guess they ran out do to discontinuation of product. So I found a Repti Glo 5.0 Tropical at PetSmart. I was reading about the product at http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.ph ... ts_id=1817. I was wondering if this is ok to use.

I use that product and it works very well
Keep it 10-12 inches away from the basking spot

Yea I use that one. I think the desert one is a little strong.

I've always kept mine about like 4 inches away from the basking dock. I've never had any problems. It's a 13 watt.

I think the desert one is stronger too, it may need to be kept farther away to prevent eye irritation.

Ya mine is the 26 watt, double the power, and the instructions on the website suggest keeping it that distance

I got the 26 watt also. So it needs to be 12"away? Thats where I will have it.

If you see any eye problem, then move it back

Hello, I got a Repti-Glo 2.0 for my turtle, because the distance between basking spot and lighting hood is only about 3 inches, do you think 2.0 UVB with 3 inches away should be fine(it's 15W)? how long is safe when bask under UVB 2.0? 6 hours a day?

I'm afraid that light is too low for a turtle to get adequate amounts of UVB. Anything under 5% isnt going to cut it.

Thanks ffor the reply, I'm worry that leaving the light too long might damage my turtle's eye, and also, I know UVB 2.0 is a little low, but I choose it because of the short distance, because I know you need at least 10 inches when use UVB 5.0, how effective 2.0 will be? what do you think?

I have my reptiglo 5.0 set at 6 inches now that the UVB in it is dying. Why is distance a problem? If anything it should be better, that close and the turtle can splash water on it.

The 2.0 isnt going to be very effective, at all. If anything you can supplement with natural sunlight for a couple of hours a week and use that as your UV source. Or you can simply get a stronger light.
