While I don't think turtles get bored in the human sense, it is nice to have a few objects to stimulate them in the tank.
Also, with your tunnel, just make sure the turtles can easily fit through it, there have been turtles who have out grown their caves and drowned when they got wedged in.
The ping-pong ball idea is kinda funny. If I have any lying around, I'm gonna try that out.

They are a microbe away from killing the tunnel and outgrowing it, which is why I just ordered a bigger one they can both fit in. Well, they can both fit in the one they have right now, but Typhoon doesn't let Hurricane in the tunnel. I am upgrading the tank right now with a lot of artificial plants, and a basking log, so, hopefully they'll be less "bored".
