General Care Discussion :: paco suddenley exibiting strange basking behavior

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat Mar 24, 2007 7:12 pm   paco suddenley exibiting strange basking behavior

paco has been acting weird for the past 3 hours... i dont know if it has somethign to do with it starting to be spriong or anything.. but when paco is basking he takes on this weird position where his feet are planted firmly on the basking log and then he stares at the ground... i thought he was asleep but his eyes are wide open when i check.... when i aproach the basking dock... before he would jump into the water.. but now he seems to not be afraid of me at all.. is there soemthign wrong... hes been eating right as far as ive seen.. and hes been swimming... i bumped up the water temp just to be safe

Maybe he's trying to get his belly really dry? Did you check his carapace for any injury or irritation?

I'd have him checked, too. If he's ill, 80 degrees is not too warm.

good luck! Keep us posted!

if he isn't moving when you come up to the tank I would call the vet in the morning and set up an appointment or got to the emergency clinic.

When I change my they swim around like crazy trying to see what changed they don't stop moving. I would have you parents take him and make sure you see a vet that knows about turtles.
