Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

No advice, but good for you for rescuing her from the road. Just today I saw one already killed in the middle of the road. It's sad when you know you have the exact same animal at home. :( I was too late to save it, but you did your good deed. I agree about just putting her back in a pond where you found her. I couldn't kill the eggs either unless I knew for sure they weren't fertilized. But, just put them in a hole near her too.

The "mold" on the shell is most likely algae, which wild turtles often have.

You said on another post that a dog was chewing on her? If so, before you release her in a safe place near to where you found her, make sure she doesn't have any serious injuries. If you're unsure, contact the Dept of Environmental Protection in your state and ask for the name of a wildlife rehabilitator or wildlife clinic she could be brought to.

Yeah. That's not a RES.
I would've definitely let her be. Atleast just moved her away from any danger. She's accustomed to the wild.

Great news! Perhaps she'll finish laying her eggs and have a long and happy life.

That's an Eastern Painted. I have one, and I have two RES. That is definitely not a RES.

Good job releasing her.

Regardless of the species, it was wonderful of you to give her a safe way to escape that dog and to re-release her, nice job!

Yep, not a RES. wildlife rehabilitors don't always get it right Since they are specialized in rehoming them, not identifying them.

No need to get defensive, everyone is here to help and have fun. :D

Why do some of you say it's not a RES? I can't be sure without seeing the plastron. :?

Just to add to the IDing...If the turtle being talked about is the one in the links at the beginning of the thread, that is not an Eastern Painted. I have 4 of them and none of them look remotely like the turtle in those pics. The carapace in the first picture is to far away to really see the pattern. The marginal scutes that are visible in the second pic look like they belong to a slider, be it a RES or another kind.

If the turtle was native to the area, I would think a rehabber would know what s/he was talking about.

I'm glad the story had a happy ending.

You mean if they hatch? You should bury the eggs near where you released the turtle.
