General Care Discussion :: Is my turtle a dwarf?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I am so sorry for the late reply, there's a vacation going on now in the UAE. Thanks for the comments and advice everyone.

I bought turtle pellets with the trade mark Tetra from a huge supermarket chain we have here. As for vegetable Nigel is eating more green leaf lettuce now, my dad and I have taken down the shrimps to much smaller quantities. As for carrots he hates them! he actually runs away really scared once he looks at anything orange, kind of weird.

Nigel tends to jolt and swim in panic mode more often now since the water depth was increased, is it a bad thing or is that how he is expressing joy?

As for the UVB lamp I found a UVB kinda expensive though and have no idea how to set it over his small house. I usally place his home next to the balcony where's there is lots of sunlight and the sun here is really strong and annoying, in my opinion that is :P . I guess its time to save up and build Nigel a proper home.

I will keep everyone updated with the progress on his new home, i want him or her to live happily. Thanks for everyone's help I highly appreciate it. :D

That's goods that you got new pellets and he's eating lettuce. Donatello hates carrots too, but she doesn't run away from them.
As for the UVB light, you're keeping the tank in front of a glass door to a balcony? Glass will filter out UVB light and if the sun is really strong, it might be overheating the tank as well.
You would be better off by taking your turtle outside every day (not in a glass container because that will heat up as well) for about 20 minutes so he can get his UVB until you are able to buy the bulb.

On basking platforms, I haven't noticed any online sites selling them for free! Be sure and let us know if you find one.

Here's some info on the subject. Note especially the discussion of building your own platform towards the bottom. A piece of cork bark (that's what you see in the photo) is an excellent choice - it floats, is durable and the texture is just right for a turtle to climb up on.

A good UVB bulb and fixture is one of the best investments you'll make. The bulbs have to be replaced pretty often (around every 6 months) but they are essential for a turtle's health long term. I've noticed that, at least around here, much more affordable options are available than there used to be.

I have my turtle for about 6 years but she/he's still just 3.5 inches with a baby face :( she was diagnostic from a vet that she has MBD about 2 years ago and I've been taking very good care of her since then(that was when I learn about the importance of basking under unfilter sunlight)
but she seems to be doing everything fine though....She just sheded her
