Just to be clear... UVA, UVB and heat are not the same thing.

I use this bulb (which is cheaper and similar to the turtle tuff)...

If you use a ceramic heat emitter, you still need a UVA/UVB light. If you go this route, note that they are expensive and seem to have a short lifespan. Plus, you should not have a fluorescent UV light as the only source of light for your turtle. You are possible looking at 3 light fixtures.

I was thinking of using the heat emitter just at night (and during the winter) to keep the air in the tank warmer. I have UVB and UVA in both tanks.

Yes, they would be fine for night use, but you really don't NEED to heat the basking dock at night, if they get cold they will go to the warm water. :)

Be careful if it was a fluorescent bulb. Those bulb's contain mercury and is very bad for your turtle...

They do break! But, why is it that only the most expensive ones break? I have had the repto this and repto that and they break, crack or go out all the time. OH Well!! I guess that is "turtledom" and the price we pay.

my only idea is that the lightbulb was turned on for too long of a time period thats all, but if that did it would die out, not explode so idk
