Its normal for their shells to get darker and less green as the grow. Its the wide seams- the greyish spaces between his scutes that show that he is growing too quickly because of over feeding.

He's really cute and looks like he's going through a growth spurt. The seam is rather broad, and it looks like the marginal scutes (the ones that rim the shell) are beginning to turn upward in the back. Growth spurts aren't necessarily anything to worry about in a tiny turtle, but just to be on the safe side, what foods, how much and how often were you feeding him? How much are you cutting back to?

He dose look a little chunky he may just need a little healtheir of a diet mine was getting chunky off pelets and didnt want to eat any thing but pelets and fruit so i layed of the pelets to like once or twice a week and feed him bannas stuffed with shaved vegis so he gets his vegis and he dosent even seam to notice their there and if you want to keep him in his container pet smart makes some great little under water filters that ur turtle wont even notice and will save you from having to change his water so often. but the local nature center told me that only if you know if your turtle is a great swimmer yet do you need so much water to start with all you need is water the depth of your turtles width if he was laying on his side. do tis until you know hes a great swimer and up his aquarium size and water debth .they need the water room to get lots of excersize witch also helps keep him slim.

Aside from what has already been mentioned, he looks to be a little too cute for his own good if you ask me. He does look like hes growing too fast, mine are having the same problem. I am having a hard time being the strict father and feeding them less, they beg all damn day and it makes me feel guilty.

Yeah at first i fed my turtle 6 pellets a day when he was less than 1 1/2 inches! He started getting those seams, now he's almost 2 inches and get's 4-5 pellets a day. It is normal to have a little bit of seam every once in a while, but not as much as that.
