General Care Discussion :: Feeder Guppies.

I'm still working on getting my turtle on fish. Right now he's only on pellets.

Pellets should be the staple. Feeders shouldn't be offered as often as they are high in protein.

I have tried on three separate occasions to get DaVinci and Lewis to eat fish. Neither of them seem too interested, and the latest fish I got were guppies, and they are pregnant. I am truly hoping that when the babies are born that the turtles get interested quickly, otherwise we'll be over-run. As it stands now when I put pellets in the tank, the guppies go after them just as quickly as the turtles, and the turtles haven't gotten ticked off enough to take down one of the fish. I have even tried limiting food so that the guppies seem more appealing.

my turtle is a beast. he gobbled down a rosie that was about three inches and his shell is only 2 inches. hahahahaha. but i prefer guppies because they don't take up alot of room.

What do you all mean about quarintine?

petsmart has both. minnows are like 12 cents a piece. quarantine is just keeping them out of the turtle tank so if they are sick you will notice it and they want get the turtle sick

that makes it a little hard for them to eat though

how long do you quarintine??

i think 90 days is the usual quarantine time then you go ahead and add them to the tank. honestly though i've never quarantined fish.

You don't need to quarantine fish for 90 days, I do mine for a night, and theirs 1 that was infected, floating dead the next morning, sometimes Even less, like hours.. I'm going to start breeding them soon so I don't have to do that.

I've quarantined fish before, but I've never had sick fish. I think it's a good idea to quarantine because you never know what you're getting. There's a lot of people here who've purchased sick feeders.

I think I did because all 3 of mine died within 3 days.

Thats not good. Hopefully nothing was passed on to you're turtles, I wouldn't buy feeders from there again.

well I put 5 in after about 3 hours

My turtles were actually scared of them at 1st LOL

Now they just act like they aren't there

they did however love the cuddlebone and anacharis
