terrarium liners/reptile carpet would probably mold quickly as it can't dry out fast enough. I would recommend against it, though I've never seen anyone use it for an extended period of time.

Now, they can come in all colors, so don't go by that. You need to go by thickness. The good stuff looks more like netting instead thick rubber pieces, which is the bad stuff.

is it bad to use the type in your second picture? that's what i have & it seems to be working well for me. i have extra, so i'll be using it again to make my basking dock for my new 50 gallon. and i'll be making it in a way where she can't bite poeces off of it.

I thought about putting some sort of sticky surface on my acrylic turtle ramp to help them, such as deck tape for a skateboard. However I was too worried that something nasty would leach into the water. I ended up gluing a piece of that white eggcrate material to the top of it, the light diffuser panels you can get for like $10 at your local home improvement store. They have zero problems with that stuff!
