Overfeeding induces rapid growth.

Those are great pics. I'm sure in nature, there's plenty of situations where one, or several from the same clutch rapidly outgrow the others. But, I agree they should possibly be seperated while feeding, if you can manage that.

I did not know that warm water induced rapid growth.

He is growing pretty quick it seems... I have had him about 2 months and he seems to have grown some.

He has finally started eating lettuce... Yay! I thought he never would... I think I am going to start feeding him pellets every other day now and give him lettuce every day. Perhaps this might help even out his rapid growing, if he is.

I think he is about 4 to 5 months old, so I don't think he has to eat pellets every day now.

My water temp gets to about 82 during the day, and coold down to 78 at night after the lights go out, and the air conditioner gets turned down to 73.

Someone suggested I put a frozen water bottle in my tank to maybe help keep it cool. I finally emptied one today and am going to give it a whirl tomorrow. = : >

Umm you can get a "air conditioner" for the water but there not to cheep

I think you mean an aquarium chiller. They work by pumping water through a cooled coil system and returning it to the tank at a lower temperature. Chillers do not cool the water via air.

Do you think it would be o.k to try a bottle of frozen water in the tank? I don't want do any sudden water temp. changes.. I know that's not good either.

80-82 is ok for a hatchling but a bit warm for an adult turtle. A frozen water bottle may not cool off the entire tank, but it will certainly provide a cool zone of water near the bottle. Your turtle can swim around to the different temp waters to regulate its body temp.

How big is your tank?

20 gallons. I have it 1/2 full.

Skimmer has grown 1/2 inch in almost 2 months... Is that "normal". Seems a bit much.

He is now 2 inches big.
