I picked up my 90 gallon with stand for $100 a few years back, definitely a good deal. Loading and transporting will require a bit of help though.

What's not to trust? Look at ad, go to check it out (confirm size, condition, even a water test if they will let you), pay, and take home. You can always look for yard sales and classified newspaper ads, though that will be tougher to find what you want.

true. but you know how it is. So i sadly lost my job and the only filter i can afford is a rena filstar XL... if i could get a used fluval fx 6 i would in a heartbeat.

I would probably get an Odyssea filter over at AquaTraders instead of an XL. The new Renas seem to have quality issues. To be fair, I think some Odyssea models had problems too, but there are some that are better. A 55 gallon is good for now, maybe think of an ATBA to maximize the space.

Are you sure that's the best I Can get with atleast 150-190 dollars for my turtle? I want to keep my tank pristine but I fear I'll have to be doing a lot of water changes....

That one, If I'm not mistaken is huge. You can get one of the cheaper ones, I think the Odyssea CFS700 is a good budget filter. Anything stronger/more expensive I would look into the FX6 or Eheim filters.

What's wrong with it being huge? Is it not worth it? Is the smaller one more worth it than the bigger one?

My only comments are that it is a bit powerful for a 55 gallon and there are fewer reviews out there.

From the specs, I'd roughly think these are suited for:
CFS 700 - 50 Gallon turtle tank
CFS 11i - 90 Gallon turtle tank
CFS 14i - 125 Gallon turtle tank

You can go with a more powerful filter but make sure any filter has proper turtle safeguards in place.

Safe guard? I thought overfiltering is best.

Safe guards.. mainly securing the intake. Some make a PVC intake that is much safer than most filter inlets.

Overfiltering is usually not a problem, but it seems a bit much IMO
