i'm very sorry to hear that nick. in february my turtle isabelle died of what i suspected to be an RI right before her vet appointment as well. alvie and her were great buddies, always basking together and goofing around. its really awful, but you did the best you could and prolly gave her the best home she could of had compared to many other uninformed owners. alvie has gotten along fine without my isabelle, he's grown and just last week the vet said he was really healthy, so your other turtle will be fine, dont worry. again, very sorry for your loss
oh lohdy, i do lu' ma alvie.

If she was stretching her neck out in the way that you described it could have been because a rock was stuck in her throat or something. Our turtle did that once after she ate an anacharis stem and it got caught in her throat. She kept looking like she was yawning but was sticking her neck out like you described. She finally got it loose though and was fine afterwards.

:( that is sad, anyways i have had 2 res die and almost a third. one had started making a kind of cough sound for about a week then started this mouth opening and yawning for a couple of days then to my horror i looked down at the turtle and it was like choking then went limp and dead and was really cold so i took him/her out and held in hands to warm up 2 hours later it was alive so i warmed the water to 85 and rushed it to the vet in morning got 2 shots 1 for each front leg amikacin, and baytril, amikacin is time released anti biotic lasts 5 days max. then u need to give it .01 milliters of baytril either injected
into front legs above knee joint towards the turtles face  .....or i suggest inject a worm or a guppy and he/she should gulp it down. water must be 85 when sick but it sounds like ur turtle drowned and it should have had oxegen immediatly first then the shots. sorry for ur loss i have lost 2 res due to refusal to eat
