Since your mom is reading up on tank temps, maybe you can show her some other websites that show the importance of the turt being taken to the vet. At least she is showing some interest now. I hope she sees the urgency in your turt going to the vet.

What the hell..... why won't your mom won't tell you what she's doing to your turtle. Unless she's doing something bad, I don't see reason or explanation to cover up what's going on. Tell her to spit it out. It's a pointless argument afterall.

Cooling off, your mom is wrong, the temp shouldn't be that high, it should be in the low 80's- mid 80's at the most. At least she's doing something to help. What did you say anyway?

well she says she knows what she is doing and my dad says that he dont want to take a 12 dollar turtle to the vet and get a 500 dollar vet bill. has anyone ever taken their turtle to the vet for RI? how much does it cost? well my mom is got it in her room next to the window and the temperature right now is 88 degrees which i still think is a little to warm she dont even have it a UVB/UVA light or anything in her room but i guess it really dont matter it is going to die eventually i still cant believe my dad wont take it to the vet there really aint nothing else i can do atlest i got 2 more turtles.........

Don't know how much vets charge for turtles. It would my nightmare to go to the vet, because the nearest vet that is qualified by redearslider.com is about 50 miles away. You gotta be kidding me when the vet is a block away. It is common sense they won't charge in the hundreds unless they split your turtle open and do something to it. I don't think RI's need surgery to be cured anyway, so there goes that.

Tell your mom she doesn't know what she's doing, because the info she's using to back her procedures up is off a tainted site. Take her on a tour of this site so she can learn what is the right temp for sick turtles, and finally accept that she is wrong, and the argument last night was indeed pointless. If the tank temp is that high pop the lid open, or at least put a little ice in the tank. Is that temp the water temp or the air temp?

One sick turtle is one too many....

Why bother helping when you're going to make matters worse? That is the question I'd want to get a response for here. Wanted to get that out of my chest.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. :(

Were you ever able to convince them to see a vet?

Yes, Kayla, it would have been, especially if it would have kept a living creature from suffering the way he had to. I'm so sorry you lost him.

Sorry about your loss. I think everyone thinks it would've been worth the drive to the vet.

Have your parents changed their view after your turtle died?
