Haha, they do have some wicked claws! If he does somehow manage to pop it, it was only $10, i can get another. Maybe if that happens i'll spring for the $25 plasic model.

I wish I had a bigger yard.....I would so do the kiddie pool idea! I could put all four of them in it and let them get acquainted. But alas....my patio is barely big enough for a bbq. Maybe next summer.

Let us know if there's any problem with the inflatable pools. I was kinda wondering if the turts would end up popping them also.

I know, I totally want a pool for Napoleon, except I don't have a yard :( Just a balcony thingie, and with my luck the pool would leak or fall through or something.

One thing to keep in mind is to monitor the water temp carefully, because I bet you out in the sun it'll heat up pretty quick. I have to move Napoleon's whole setup tonight because the angle of the sun now directly hits his tank for a few hours a day at this time of year, and the fluctuations in temperature are beyond what I can control. Sigh.

Here's Turtley's new luxury summer resort! I got a fluval 4+ for it (i saved $15 at Petsmart by printing out the online price :D ), and boy does that thing move some water! I have to be careful of which direction it's pointing or it creates a whirlpool.

I need to think of a nicer looking and more permanent idea for a shady spot, the drawing board and bricks were all i had handy. When i first put him in he was so confused, but after a few minutes he was swimming all around and really seemed to be enjoying himself. My roommates think i'm insane, but they don't mind having half our deck taken up by this setup so i'm happy. I'm thinking about building some kind of awning that would cover half of the pool, hopefully that will help to keep temps down once it starts to get hot.

Yea that looks really nice! I wouldn't mind jumping in there right now. :D

You could probably pick up a couple of large potted plants from the garden center at home depot or walmart and put it around the southern edge of the pool. That will not only provide shade but will look nice too! :)

Oh yea, you should probably put some minnows in there too to keep mosquitos from breeding in it. And maybe try some live aquatic plants and see if the turtle will leave them alone.

Boy that looks like turtle fun! Trust me, your turtle will be happy as a clam out there. The problem will come next fall when you have to bring him back in - he won't want to go!

I'm keeping a tarp over it when he's not using it, do you think mosquitos will still breed in it? I like the plant idea, i might check that out next time i have some spare $$. I'm sure i'll be continuously upgrading it throughout the summer as new ideas come to me. And as always, i love hearing everyone else's ideas and suggestions!

Mosquitos are good at finding any standing water and laying their eggs in it. If you cover it so their are no gaps for the mosquitos to get in you'll be ok. But as soon as the area gets in shaded, they'll be there to lay their eggs.

That is a very cute set up, I would love to do that. But my dog has free range when it comes to our tiny back yard and patio. I would have to cover it with a board or something so she didn't get into it at night. Because she could stay in the house atleast if I had the turtle out there. Well still very interesting.
How deep is the water? And that is a filter in there, how much was it at petsmart? I would sooooo love to do that. And your turtle looks so happy basking out there.
