Water splashed on one of my turtle's bulbs once and it exploded. It was so sudden and so loud it took me a minute to realize what had happened.

Which kind of bulb? I'm using a halogen bulb, the kind that is used outdoors (by garages, porches, etc) so it does have a thicker layer of glass. There was also a post about a ZooMed product...

In my case it was a zoo med incandescent bulb. I can't remember whether it was a daytime, "full spectrum" bulb or a night time bulb. I was using both at the time. (This was back before I knew anything about bulbs so I wasn't using the right kind.)

the reptiglo 5.0, without leaving any extra space between the water line and the light, just 7 inches away, is doing great. no swollen eyes.
