I think that people just don't know any better. We got our first two from Myrtle Beach. And like everyone else we were uneducated about them. We seen how cute and green they were and had to get them. We brought them home in one of those carriers they put hermit crabs in. The lady that sold it to us could hardly speak English. There must have been 20 other little turtles in that 10 gallon tank. As soon as we got home, we starting trying to find out what kind of turtles they were and found out that we needed a whole bunch of more stuff for them. Lucky we had the funds to try and get the right set up going. We started out with a 10 gallon starter kit from walmart. Some people that buy these turtles (like us) have no idea what they are getting in to and what all they actually need. Some people might not have the funds to go out and buy a new tank and etc....I think the little lagoons are a bad idea. They would be okay (like someone else said) for a temp house until you can get what you need for them. But not for the turtles to live in them for a month. Some one said you shouldn't get them if you don't have space for them. I agree with that to a point. If you already know what they turtle needs and you are not going to provide that and get one any way. Then you don't need one. If you do like we did and bought on a impulse it is okay because you didn't know any better and since you found out what you now need, your to make it right for the turtle. That is why this site is here. Steve cares about his turtles and wanted to educated people about what they need. That is awesome. I am very thankful for this web site and the people on it. Everyone has help us in one way or another. I guess that is why we have 8 healthy RES and everyone of you in your own way has help us achieve that. Thank you! The more we learn the more we can share with the other new people who are just starting out. :D
