Could it have been some bird of prey hunting? They can scope out anything moving underwater. With the trees there they probably couldn't have seen the turtles from overhead but with the trees gone they could've mistaken them for fish.

Definetely sounds like a predator got them.

Do you have some sort of cover for your cage? I really think that it has somthing to do with the norester that came through. The RES at school went berserk right before it came through. when i went home, my two were not fighting (BIG SHOCK) and they were trying to hide under the turtle turf. the day after the Norester blew over, they all went back to normal. I really believe that the combination of Turtle Inteligence and their instinct came together to hide and really think it through! Also, im very sorry for your lost. At least they are in a better place.

I dont believe she has a tank.. She has an outdoor pond and Ive never seen covers for them
