OOoooooOOOH!!

I LOVE it!! I want to that too, but...

I've heard too many horrific of raccoon attacks on turtles... we have a LOT of 'coons here in Vancouver. My friend told me that her friend, who lived in an apartment a long time ago kept a small pool of turtles in his balcony. But SOMEHOW some raccoons still managed to climb up and get them and throw the poor turtles off the building and eat them!!

It's not very deep, it's about a foot of water i think. By printing out the online price from petsmart.com i got the filter for $35, the store price was $50. Every time i put him out there he seems to like it more, i'm really happy i did this for him, it was kind of an impulse buy. I was at target and just happened to walk by a wall of baby pools and thought "wow i bet turtley would enjoy that!" and for $10 why not? But then i bought the filter, and the plant...i have a feeling i'm gonna be spending a bit of money on this over the summer. But that's ok, i love my little turtle buddy! :D

Is this intended to be used over the entire summer? I'm not sure if those pools are durable enough to be inflated that long. And since there is no real barrier between those bars, it could be a problem.

It does look like a lot of fun for Turtley and it is very creative :)

I am planning on using it throughout the summer, i'm not expecting the pool to be super durable, but i only put him in when i'm home, and i check on him all the time because i worry about him, separation anxiety i guess. Hopefully it would start to leak before it just busts open :? ...maybe i will line up bricks around the edge of the deck just in case, he could climb over them if he was really determined but i think i would notice before it got to that.

Well people know me to be SUPER protective when it comes to my turts. My thinking is that once out of that pool, there is no barrier or protection at all. And if that deflates, rips, or whatever... it could be happen suddenly without any warning.

Sorry about that... I still think it's very creative and I want to try something similar when it is warmer, I just have some reservations about using it unsupervised.

Well, you all inspired me. It's been beautiful here, in the high 70s. Since I have no room for a pool, I got a tupperware container. THEY LOVE IT! They've spend two afternoons now getting in, swimming to the other side, and then getting out, walking around back to the bricks, and getting in again.

Here's a pic

Just Crush and Squirt are allowed outside. Spike and Donny could too easily slip underneath the fence.

Cool! That's great, they can get out and crawl around as much as they want. Just be really careful cause they can squeeze under tight places and even dig under the fence if they're determined enough.

Yes, I check on them a lot. I think they'd do better without me checking on them so much, lol. I turtle-proofed the yard. Most of the fence is over concrete, so they can't dig there. The only part of the fence that is over dirt is where I put the water tub / bricks. I can't see any way they could possibly escape, but I keep an eye on them eye.

Can't have anything happenin to the girls!

Yup, gotta keep them safe. :)

That's nice to have a fenced in area for them. I may try to do something with some low garden fencing in my backyard too. :D
