General Care Discussion :: Yay saved by my cousin, couple of questions

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:02 pm   Yay saved by my cousin, couple of questions

K, heres how it went, my cousin wanted a turtle really bad
and he knew my turtle got sick, so like 2 days ago before i was abou tto go to the vet, my cousin wanted him, so i gave it to him, now i was turtle-less

i went to the pet shop
and to my surprise,
the people were educated, they had beautilful setups and wonderful turtles,
i got a baby one-like 1 1/4 inches

now
hes much lighter in skin tone and his head is skinnier
is this normal or is soemthing wrong?
he also has huge nostrils XD
he looks premature( if u know what i mean)

ill post up pictures later ( i just put him in the tank and i dont want to disturb him for a couple of days, so he gets adjusted =D)

So you gave away a sick turtle? Does your cousin plan to make sure it will get whatever medical attention it needs?

If your pet shop knew their stuff, they wouldn't be selling hatchlings.

Wow. I'd feel bad about pawning off a sick turtle just to get rid of it, even if your cousin does have the means to take care of it.

As for your other questions...

They shouldn't be selling 1 1/4" turtles. Secondly, you should have considered those concerns before purchasing the turtle. It may just be that it's very young; I don't know.

So let me get this straight... you disposed of a sick turtle to go and buy an illegal one elsewhere. Now, a show of hands, how many here at turtle talk find that ethical?

i didnt dispose
my cousin is better experienced with turtles he works at petsmart
and when i told him my turtle was sick with RI he said hell take him in and nurse him, my cousin has alot of turtles, one time when hurricane rita was comming we had to evacuate to college station, i went to his house to help him move the tanks which were by the window, and he had a room with like 3 tanks.

so i gave him to my cousin. i got a 30 gallon tank, which was suggested on another thread, so he said once he gets better hell give the turtle back to me.
Once i get him back i can have 2 turtle

guys...please chill out, there are better ways to deal with this..there is no need in ragging down on someone. forget what virusspawn did, it's the past, it's over..focus on the turtle..I want to help with the one that virusspawn has now and not dread on something that virusspawn did, virusspawn could have done something worse, like dump it in a canal. I am not excited about virusspawn's decision, but like I mentioned, it could have been worse. Try not to do it again, virusspawn.

his cousin has a job, so atleast he is going to have the money to take good care of it. remember, we are here to help not fight..

virusspan - if you can get a picture of your turtle, then that would be more helpful. also, make sure that your cousin is well suited to take care of the turtle. if anything, tell him to join us here on the forum! we can give him advice and maybe he can teach us a thing or two..

Some advice for taking pics of your turtle, back up enough that the photo will be in focus, then crop it on the computer. Some people try to get as close as possible, but the pics come out so blurry that we can't see anything.
