General Care Discussion :: They are hatching!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat Aug 18, 2007 1:55 am   They are hatching!

One of my eggs are hatching!! Not the one I posted about yesterday, but the egg I thought wouldn't hatch because of the dent. I am so excited!! I took two pictures of it hatching:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1217/115 ... ee36d3.jpg
I really can't believe it is hatching! I hope the other one follows and starts hatching as well. When I pick it up to move it to another container how do I touch it? I know it will have a yolk sac and I don't want to hurt it.
BTW- Thanks to everyone who was helping me yesterday regarding my "shattered egg" I do hope that one will hatch too.

Try the new links, they are working. I have no idea why the old links won't work. I will take more pics as it progresses.

I will definitely keep it posted. Flash can't hurt the babies right? I don't want to blind them by taking pictures.

If I turn off the flash then the pictures are blurry and really dark. My camera is terrible. It is SOO CUTE! I have been watching it and it is working its butt off on that egg trying to get out! I don't want to go to sleep in case I miss something lol. I have took some more pics (with and without flash) some of them are OK but they aren't very good at all. I might upload a few more to my Flickr.

It switches from pushing out that piece at the bottom and the one at the top. It has to be hard work!! Picture quality isn't that great but you can see it pushing out a piece of shell:

That is so cool! My baby dragons can take an entire day to fully emerge from their eggs. They have to stop and rest a lot in between pushing but I usually just leave them alone to do their work and just check on them every couple of hours. It should be ok to leave them in the incubator for a few hours after they are done hatching since they usually need to fully absorb their yolk sacs. Just keep the humidity up. Usually baby turtles have to walk a little distance to find their ponds.

I can't wait to see pics of the little guy once he's fully out! :D
